Why You Should Share Your Ideas

Why You Should Share Your Ideas

By Katie Lepi

I was chatting with a friend the other day about how the business she now runs got started. The short version of the story is that she had been toying around with creating a product for awhile, but wasn’t sure if it would be feasible to scale that into a larger operation. Once she started talking with different people about her idea, she was connected with a number of different people who shared their experiences and expertise with her, and her company took off.
It brought to mind this infographic from Mia MacMeekin that I had seen awhile back. It is a visual representation of how a simple idea, when shared, can morph into a big idea, and great things can happen. It can serve as a good reminder that when you have an idea, share it – you never know what might happen! This stands true for ideas in the classroom, professional development, and your student’s ideas. Encourage them to share, too!

The Story of a Shared Idea

  • A person has an idea
  • The idea is shared with another person
  • That person shares the idea, too, and it is shared via many other individuals
  • Possibilities and potential scenarios surrounding the idea are shared
  • The original idea morphs into a new, changed idea
  • The original person gets back a bigger, better idea because it has been shared!
